Monday, what a difference a week makes

    Hi all,
The week went well for the most part.  It has grown colder and the leaves are all rapidly changing.  What was green is now either red, orange, yellow or brown.  Of course there are some diehards that will not get around to changing until all others are finished - they like to be the last ones on display apparently.  The sky grows dark faster every evening as well, and pretty soon I will be driving home in the dark.
Karina and I took pictures at a wedding for Nicole and Shaun, and it was quite fun. I got to handle the photos for the guys while Karina took the girls.  Shaun had to wear a blindfold during the photos of them together, as Nicole did not want him to see her before the ceremony.  It was at night though, so all pics were done during the day and early evening to catch the great light.  I will put a few on here later for you to see, they turned out great!
John's dad is in the hospital with pneumonia and a blocked aorta, and also has congenitive heart failure.  He is doing pretty well for having all that, and has cussed out the nurses a few times at least so far, told them the food was tastless and a bunch of - ummm - shit (his word), and gave them a hard go of it when they tried to get him to sit in a chair.  That took 45 minutes to accomplish.  John has been there every day for awhile and is currently there.  He and dad's wife Joann are waiting to hear what the specialist has to say about that blocked aorta.
Karina and Frank took John and I out to dinner for our 34th anniversary (Oct 21) to Olive Garden, and it was really fun.  We had a great time, and Keegan behaved very well.  He always does, so I did not expect anything else.  They all three are sweethearts.  Thanks to both of you Karina and Frank!
Well, I am out of here, but wanted to update.  I will probably not be back until Oct 28, as John and I are off work and have a lot of plans.  Have a fabulous week!  Hugs!

    This weekend

What a nice weekend we had!  Frank's work sponsored a car show on Saturday afternoon.  It was the 5th year for it, and they got 3 - 4 times as many vehicles as last year.  (motorcycles, trucks, cars, vans, a military vehicle and a go-kart were among the participants).  I took about 70 pictures, but they are not ready to put here yet as I have to scan them in (forgot about making a CD).  John and I got to watch Keegan from Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning.  Karina and Frank had bachelor/bachelorette parties to attend.  They came over on Sunday and we watched the football games, ate dinner (Karina and I made shepherds pie, and angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream for dessert).  mmm.  We also watched a movie "Inside Man".  It was very slow and I lost interest in it.  Even the guys thought it was way too slow the way they dragged all the stuff out.  The ending was a bit bizarre too.  All together, it was a wonderful weekend. :-)

October is breast cancer awareness month

Ladies, please take the time to check and get checked.  A little cancer can cause a world of difference to both you and the ones you love.  They don't want you to leave too early!  My mom found a lump and waited just a bit longer until I had my youngest child as she did not want to have surgery keeping her down if I needed her.  That little bit of time was enough to make what could have been fixed unfixable.  (We think she was also in a state of denial about it when first finding that lump and used the pregnancy as an excuse, but it did not make things any easier.)

Gentlemen, please show your love to the women that you care about - including mom, sisters, and wife or girlfriend - and ask them if they have gotten their mammograms (or other health checkups) lately.  We women tend to take care of everyone but forget to take as much care of ourselves, and sometimes we need a gentle reminder.  Tell them you love them and that you want them to be here as long as possible.

Also - MEN CAN GET IT TOO.  It is more rare, but it is possible and does occur.  If you notice a lump, thickening, or any other change in your chest or nipple area, please get to a doctor and have it checked.  You would be deeply missed as much as we would if you let it go too long.

Wednesday - plus an update on Saturday

I can not believe it is almost time for my neck surgery follow up.  It should be done at 6 months - but my surgeon is retiring from office practice after this coming Wednesday - so my appt is a month early on Monday.  I wonder what the x-rays will show?  :-)  I feel marvelous in the surgical area, so I think it will be apparent that I am healing well.  Karina and I took team and individual photos of some soccer teams (that is football to some people) and they all turned out super!  We also took photos of Fontbonne Univ's alumni reunion on Friday evening. Their theme was Oscar night, (Glamour, Glitz, and Griffins).  I guess you can tell our school mascot is a griffin.  That was a fun evening, and some of the alums really got into it with feather boas, glitzy outfits, and one wore a fur collar (not sure if it was real or fake).  There were tall Oscar statues on each side of the 3 piece band, 4 areas of food with themes to match The Godfather, American in Paris, Breakfast at Tiffany's (NYC), and Zorba the Greek.  We both had a great time, but were SO glad to go home at around 10:15!  We had already worked a full day, and then had to be on our feet for 4 more hours.  (The same with the team pics, as it was after work on weeknights, but not as long of a time period).  For some reason, it feels like it should be Friday... but alas it is only Wednesday.  Probably all the extra stuff we had to do.  Besides photos, there was a shower and a get-together, and we also absolutely loved seeing Keegan and Frank too (Karina, you know I absolutely love seeing and talking to you as much as possible.)  Well, break is over, so it is back to work for me.  Hugs!

    Update:
Karina got to take her first photos for a newspaper!  I met a photographer for one of our local papers back in August, and she and Karina finally got to get together this past week so that Karina could show her a portfolio.  Two days later she was shooting her first volleyball game pics for the paper.  I put a few on to show off her work as I am so very proud of her!

Also, it is my friend Nik's birthday (Oct 8th).  He lives in Singapore.   Happy Birthday Nik!   Hope you have many more!
